WESTPAK Powers One of its California Testing Laboratories With Solar Energy

The new system is expected to generate more than 660,000 kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually.

WESTPAK Inc. has completed a new solar photovoltaic system atop its flagship testing facility in San Jose, Calif. The installation, developed in partnership with Solar Gain, will offset a significant portion of the facility’s electricity use with clean, on-site renewable energy.

The new system is expected to generate more than 660,000 kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually — supplying over half of the San Jose lab’s total power needs and meaningfully reducing the facility’s reliance on the regional grid. The project reflects WESTPAK’s broader commitment to operating responsibly while continuing to deliver the rigorous, accredited testing for clients.

The solar investment builds on WESTPAK’s 40-year legacy of helping manufacturers bring safe, reliable, and increasingly sustainable products to market. Through its sustainability testing services, WESTPAK partners with clients to evaluate the packages that are more recyclable, biodegradable, and more durable, thus reducing material waste and environmental impact without compromising product protection. By generating its own clean power, WESTPAK now extends that same sustainability ethic to its own operations.

“Sustainability isn’t just something we help our clients with—it’s a value and investment we hold ourselves to,” WESTPAK President/CEO Nora Crivello said. “Adding solar power to our San Jose laboratory is a natural extension of the work we already do every day, helping companies engineer more sustainable packaging. This investment reduces our own environmental footprint while allowing us to keep delivering the speed, quality, and integrity our clients have trusted for 40 years. We are actively adding solar to our other locations in San Diego and Union City.”

WESTPAK’s San Jose laboratory is one of the company’s three testing facilities, offering package, distribution, environmental, reliability, and cold chain testing accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 by A2LA. The solar installation is part of the company’s continued investment in its California operations, following recent expansions of its testing capacity across its San Jose, San Diego, and Union City locations.

Founded in 1986, WESTPAK Inc. is a third-party independent testing laboratory that provides package and product testing and validation solutions for the medical device, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, electronics, and high-tech industries, with testing accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 by A2LA. Guided by the philosophy that integrity is the priceless ingredient in testing, WESTPAK partners with clients to bring safe, reliable, and increasingly sustainable products to market.
